William Bartholomew is an independent, freethinking craftsman embarked on the spiritual journey of life. William’s work reflects his admiration for poverty and the struggle to achieve with what is at hand. His strong focus on achieving less with more is further reflected in designs that are simple and elegant. His work is the instrumental piece that gives wholeness to the space that it takes. Adventure and Adversity keep his mind and spirit rich with ideas and contribute to his nautically inspired designs capturing both the beauty of the materials and our attention. William dreams of traveling the world on the support of his skills as a woodworker in the boat that he is currently restoring, a true journeyman carpenter and a rogue.
"I am inspired by summer days and the tranquil breezes that beckon us to enjoy them. I find my peace with the world on the small sailboat I built, sailing within arms reach of the sedge islands and marshland out of reach to many. It is not so much that the places themselves are out of reach, but the experience of gliding almost silently along, the only sounds, those of nature and the sleek hull cutting through the calm water aren’t known to many. It might mean trudging through thin water, feet getting stuck in mud deeper than the water itself, all for the reward of sailing down remote canals where the wildlife is just as intrigued by me as I am of them. Like my work getting to these beautiful places is often faced with hardship and rough going, and like my adventures, I try to take my woodwork to places others have not ever gone."
